“A Cleaner Grid of Time,” 12 years on

Twelve years ago today (on 12-12-12), I published a short pitch for improving upon how the Gregorian calendar divides our annual trip around the sun into months; maintaining a reverence for the beautiful divisibility of the number 12. My pitch prized simplicity and consistency where possible—rendering a 29-day month unthinkable, for example.

Will this calendar ever be widely embraced? Highly doubtful! But attempting to reconcile multiple periodicities with no common factors—competing architectures—is an addictive pastime for over-thinkers like myself. And creating month names with various mathematical properties was a kick.
